Chimamanda’s comments on trans women is why it’s not enough to just “believe” in transness as if it’s something mythical. Believing that someone can be a trans woman, is one thing but truly believing that trans women are women is something so many “feminists” get away with not doing.

Being born a woman is different than getting surgery to become one. We don’t experience life the same way as they do. Also, trans women have to deal with issues that women simply don’t. Chimamanda is right in my opinion.

She said trans women have male privilege, she made a distinction between trans womanhood and womanhood. Yes, trans women experience life differently than cis women but black women experience life differently than white women yet they are both women. You can acknowledge a difference in experience, and oppression without implying trans womanhood as something completely different than womanhood in general.

There’s also just no way to get around the fact that she said trans women have male privilege

“getting surgery to become one” lmao just stop fucking talking. trans women are women whether they take steps to medically transition or not; hormones or not a trans woman is a woman and womanhood has never been monolithic. that comment was so nasty.
